RELAY/DOMINOES

The domino theory believes in the 'knock-on' effects of one thing to another - a Relay of cause and effect as when one falling domino causes an entire row of upended dominoes to fall. Dominoes itself is an indoor, sedentary sport where 28 pieces divided in half are shared out randomly and can only be played where they pair with a matching piece at either end - another relay effect, the making of an ordered sequence through time.

Dominoes, then, seem to offer a multi-stacked metaphor for relay relationships - visual, physical, personal and social. The relays here can happen both between the pieces themselves, and between the pieces and their audiences.

The core photographic series of 7 pairs (equivalent of 0 - 6 spots) becomes a 28-piece playable floor -based installation, using all the picture combinations including doubles. These can be piled, stacked and laid out in different patterns by gallery visitors.
